22:15-30, .15.발락이 다시 그들보다 더 높은 고관들을 더 많이 보내매 16.그들이 발람에게로 나아가서...27.나귀가 여호와의 사자를 보고 발람 밑에 엎드리니 발람이 노하여 자기 지팡이로 나귀를 때리는지라 28.여호와께서 나귀 입을 여시니 발람에게 이르되 내가 당신에게 무엇을 하였기에 나를 이같이 세 번을 때리느냐 29.발람이 나귀에게 말하되 네가 나를 거역하기 때문이니 내 손에 칼이 있었다면 곧 너를 죽였으리라 30.나귀가 발람에게 이르되 나는 당신이 오늘까지 당신의 일생 동안 탄 나귀가 아니냐 내가 언제 당신에게 이같이 하는 버릇이 있었더냐 그가 말하되 없었느니라

묵상 및 적용/ 어제 주술사 발람의 저주로 이스라엘을 제압하려던 암몬 왕 발락의 시도가 좌절되었다. 그는 포기하지 않고 거짓 선지자 발람에게 2차 사절단으로 더 많은 사람과 선물을 보낸다. 발람이 원하는 것은 무엇이든지 들어주겠다고 약속하면서 그의 마음을 돌이키려 한다. 발람은 어쩡쩡하게 거절하지 않고 하나님의 뜻을 더 알아보겠다고 타협한다. 발람의 말은 인간의 욕심과 의도에 맞추어 하나님의 뜻을 변경시키려는 인간의 전형적인 악한 본성을 보여준다. 우리는 이런 일을 행하고 있지 않는가? 

결국 발람이 나귀를 타고 왕의 신하들과 갈 때 하나님이 진노하신다. 하나님의 사자가 발람의 길을 막아선다. 주의 사자가 칼을 든 것을 본 나귀가 세 번 피하자, 발람이 그때마다 지팡이로 나귀를 때린다. 이에 하나님이 나귀의 입을 열어 주인 발람에게 항변하게 하신다. 28-30, “28.여호와께서 나귀 입을 여시니 발람에게 이르되 내가 당신에게 무엇을 하였기에 나를 이같이 세 번을 때리느냐 29.발람이 나귀에게 말하되 네가 나를 거역하기 때문이니 내 손에 칼이 있었다면 곧 너를 죽였으리라 30.나귀가 발람에게 이르되 나는 당신이 오늘까지 당신의 일생 동안 탄 나귀가 아니냐 내가 언제 당신에게 이같이 하는 버릇이 있었더냐 그가 말하되 없었느니라.”
 유혹을 물리치라. 발람은 영적인 눈이 어두워져 나귀보다 못한 인생이 되고 만 것이다. 본문에서 거짓 선지자 발람은 물질에 눈이 어두워 유혹에 흔들렸다. 불의의 삯을 사랑하여 그 신하들을 따라가다가 하나님의 진노를 당하게 된다. 칼을 든 하나님의 사자를 피하려는 나귀를 채찍질하다가 나귀의 입을 통해 하나님의 책망을 듣게 된다. 하나님의 말씀을 듣도록 나귀의 입을 통해 역사하신 것이다. 나귀가 말을 하는 놀라운 상황에서도 발람은 나귀와 언쟁할 뿐 자신을 돌아보지(회개하지) 않는다.

“발람이야 말로 바로 하나님의 말씀을 안 듣는 나귀인 것이다.” 발람은 겉으로는 하나님의 지시를 따라 움직였지만, 실제로는 자기 욕망을 따라 하나님의 길을 벗어난 것이다. 우리가 욕망과 야심을 위해 하나님의 뜻에 순종하지 않으면 발람과 같은 사람이 되는 것이다. 우리 모두 진심으로 자기를 부인하고, 자기 욕심을 버리고, 자기 고집을 내려놓고 겸손히 순종의 길을 가야 한다. *겟세마네 동산에서 예수님의 기도를 기억하라. “아버지여, 내 원대로 마시고, 아버지 뜻대로 하옵소서.” 겉으로만 순종하는 척하는 것은 발람의 길을 가는 것이다.
벧후2:15-16, “그들이 바른 길을 떠나 미혹되어 브올의 아들 발람의 길을 따르는도다 그는 불의의 삯을 사랑하다가, 자기의 불법으로 말미암아 책망을 받되 말하지 못하는 나귀가 사람의 소리로 말하여 이 선지자의 미친 행동을 저지하였느니라.” 
하나님은 우리가 잘못된 방향으로 갈 때 앞길을 막으시기도 한다. 우리는 이 경고를 잘 깨닫고 돌이켜야 할 것이다. 이것이 은혜이다. 하나님의 길은 하나님의 말씀에 듣고 순종하는 길이다. 이것이 가장 안전한 길이다. 이 길을 걸어가실 수 있길 주의 이름으로 축복합니다. *물질과 명예의 유혹을 뿌리치기 위해 내가 붙잡아야 할 말씀은 무엇인가?

기도:하나님, 인간적 욕심(고집)에 눈이 어두워 잘못된 길에 들어서다가 하나님의 음성을 듣고 돌이키게 하옵소서. 하나님의 뜻을 잘 듣고 깨달아 바른 길로 걸어감으로 하나님의 기쁨이 되게 하옵소서. 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

22:15-30, ..28.Then the LORD opened the donkey's mouth, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?" 29.Balaam answered the donkey, "You have made a fool of me! If I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now." 30.The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your own donkey, which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?" "No," he said.
Meditation and Application/ Yesterday, King Balak of Ammon tried to subdue Israel through the curse of the sorcerer Balaam. He did not give up and sent more people and gifts to the false prophet Balaam as a second emissary. He promised to grant Balaam whatever he wanted and tried to change his mind. Balaam did not refuse but compromised by saying that he would learn more about God’s will. Balaam’s words showed the typical evil nature of humans who try to change God’s will to suit their greed and intentions. Aren’t we doing this? Eventually, when Balaam was riding on a donkey & going with the king’s servants, God became angry. An angel of God blocked Balaam’s path. When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord with a sword, it avoided him three times, and Balaam struck the donkey with his staff each time. God opened the donkey’s mouth and made it protest to its master Balaam. 28-30, “28.Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth, and it said to Balaam, ‘What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?’ 29.Then Balaam said to the donkey, ‘Because you have rebelled against me. If I had a sword in my hand, I would have killed you.’ 30.The donkey said to Balaam, ‘Am I not the donkey on which you have ridden all your life until today? When was it my custom to do this to you?’ He said, ‘No.’”
Resist temptation. Balaam’s spiritual eyes were blinded, and he ended up living a life worse than a donkey. In the text, the false prophet Balaam was blinded by material things and swayed by temptation. He loved the wages of unrighteousness and followed his servants, but he suffered God’s wrath. He whipped the donkey to avoid the angel of God who had a sword, and heard God’s rebuke through the donkey’s mouth. God worked through the donkey’s mouth so that he could hear God’s words. Even in the surprising situation where the donkey speaks, Balaam only argues with the donkey and does not look back(repent) on himself.
“Balaam is like a donkey who does not listen to the word of God.” Outwardly, Balaam followed God’s instructions, but in reality, he deviated from God’s path according to his own desires. If we do not obey God’s will for the sake of our desires and ambitions, we become people like Balaam. We all must sincerely deny ourselves, abandon our own greed, put down our own stubbornness, and humbly walk the path of obedience. *Remember Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane: “Father, not my will, but Yours be done.” Pretending to obey only outwardly is walking the path of Balaam.

 2Peter 2:15-16, “15.They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness. 16.But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey--a beast without speech--who spoke with a man's voice and restrained the prophet's madness.” God sometimes blocks our path when we go in the wrong direction. We must recognize this warning well and turn back. This is grace. God's way is the way of listening to God's word and obeying it. This is the safest way. I bless you in the name of the Lord to walk this path. *What is the word that I must hold on to in order to resist the temptation of material things and fame?

Prayer: God, please let me hear your voice &turn back when I go down the wrong path because my eyes are blinded by human greed(stubbornness). Please let me listen to Your will well, understand it, &walk on the right path so that it becomes God's joy. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
