22:1-14, ...5.그가 사신을 브올의 아들 발람의 고향인 강가 브돌에 보내어 발람을 부르게 하여 이르되 ...6.우리보다 강하니 청하건대 와서 나를 위하여 이 백성을 저주하라 내가 혹 그들을 쳐서 이겨 이 땅에서 몰아내리라 그대가 복을 비는 자는 복을 받고 저주하는 자는 저주를 받을 줄을 내가 앎이니라.  7.모압 장로들과 미디안 장로들이 손에 복채를 가지고 떠나 발람에게 이르러 발락의 말을 그에게 전하매..12.하나님이 발람에게 이르시되 너는 그들과 함께 가지도 말고 그 백성을 저주하지도 말라 그들은 복을 받은 자들이니라 13.발람이 아침에 일어나서 발락의 귀족들에게 이르되 너희는 너희의 땅으로 돌아가라 여호와께서 내가 너희와 함께 가기를 허락하지 아니하시느니라

묵상및 적용/이스라엘 백성이 모압 평지에 진을 치자, 모압 왕 발락이 두려워하여 (거짓)선지자 발람에게 사신을 보낸다. 왜 두려워하는가? 그들이 강해서가 아니라 임마누엘 하나님이 그들과 함께 하시기 때문이다. 소년 다윗이 거인 골리앗을 담대히 이길 수 있었던 것은 하나님이 함께 하셨기 때문이다. 하나님을 신뢰했기 때문이다.
하나님은 그에게 모압 사신들과 함께 가지 말며, 이스라엘을 저주하지 말라고 하신다. 이에 발람은 발락의 초청을 거절하면서도 타협한다. 거짓 선지자 발람은 돈 앞에서 머뭇거리는 모습을 보인다. 8절. 탐욕에 이끌려 타협하기 시작한다. 성도는 불의한 재물 앞에 단호해야 한다. “돈을 사랑함이 일만 악의 뿌리다.” “온갖 더러운 것과 탐욕은 너희 중에서 이름조차도 부르지 말라.”고 말씀한다(엡5:3). 성도는 처음부터 바른 길을 선택해야 한다.
본문은 하나님이 인간의 생사화복을 주관하심을 보여준다. 그러므로 우리는 전적으로 하나님을 의지해야 한다.
또 하나님은 발람에게 택한 백성을 저주하지 못하게 막으신다. 하나님은 언약 백성을 보증하시고 보호하신다. 하지만 늘 깨어 있어야 넘어지지 않는다. 방심하면 안 된다. 사탄과 악한 영들은 결코 쉬지 않는다. 언제나 성도들이 방심한 틈을 노리면서 음모를 꾸민다. 이스라엘 백성은 모압 발락 왕의 은밀한 계략을 전혀 눈치채지 못하고 있었다. 모든 것을 아시는 하나님이 그의 사악한 음모로부터 백성을 보호해주셨다. 하지만 이스라엘도 나중에 모압의 음행 작전에 넘어지고 말았다(25장). 오늘도 깨어 기도하며 마음을 잘 지키자. 주님과 말씀을 붙들고 하나님과 그 나라를 위해 살아가자. *내가 하나님의 사람을 비방하고 저주한다면 하나님은 어떻게 보실까? 

기도 : 인생의 주관자이신 하나님, 오직 하나님 손에 저의 인생을 맡기고 살게 하옵소서. 또 하나님의 백성을 저주하지 말고 축복하고 그 뜻을 구하며 살게 하옵소서. 세상의 유혹과 불의한 방법을 단호히 거절하고, 하나님을 온전히 신뢰하고, 하나님의 말씀을 붙잡고 예수님의 이름으로 승리하게 도와주소서. 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

In the midst of the storm, my soul will quietly look to you. Amen.

22:1-14, ...5. He sent messengers to Pethor on the riverbank, the hometown of Balaam son of Beor, and called Balaam, saying, ...6. Come, please, curse this people for me, for they are stronger than we; perhaps I will defeat them and drive them out of the land; for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed. 7. The elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the coins in their hands and came to Balaam and told him what Balak had said. 12. God said to Balaam, “Do not go with them, and do not curse the people, for they are blessed.” 13. Then Balaam got up in the morning and said to Balak’s nobles, “Go back to your own land, for the Lord has refused to let me go with you.”
Meditation and Application/When the Israelites camped on the plains of Moab, Balak, the king of Moab, was afraid and sent messengers to the (false) prophet Balaam. Why was he afraid? It was not because they were strong, but because Immanuel God was with them. The boy David was able to boldly defeat the giant Goliath because God was with him. He trusted in that God./  God told Balaam not to go with the Moabite messengers and not to curse Israel. So he declined Balak’s invitation but compromised. The false prophet Balaam hesitated before the money. Verse 8. They begin to compromise because they are led by greed. The saints must be firm in the face of unrighteous wealth. “The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” “Let all impurity and greed not even be named among you” (Eph.5:3). The saints must choose the right path from the beginning./The text shows that God governs the life and death of mankind. Therefore, we must rely entirely on God/ Also, God prevents Balaam from cursing the chosen people. God guarantees and protects the covenant people. However, we must always be awake so that we do not fall. We must not let our guard down. Satan &evil spirits never rest. They always plot when the saints are off guard. The Israelites were completely unaware of the secret scheme of King Balak of Moab. God, who knows everything, protected the people from his evil scheme. However, Israel later fell for Moab’s fornication scheme(Ch.25). Let us stay awake & pray today and guard our hearts well. Let us hold on to the Lord and His Word and live for God and His kingdom. *If I slander and curse God's people, how will God see me?

Prayer: God, the master of life, let me entrust my life only to Your hands and live. Also, let me not curse Your people but bless them and live by seeking Your will. Please help me firmly reject the temptations and unrighteous ways of the world, trust in You completely, hold on to Your Word, and be victorious in the name of Jesus. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
