<Sermon Summary>
The Book of Exodus reveals the amazing work of God in saving His people. God displayed circumstances to ensure Israel relied solely on Him(chs.1-2), prepared Moses, and opened the way for salvation(chs.3-11). At the crucial moment of the Exodus, He provided the blood of the Passover lamb(ch.12). On the night of the Passover, the Israelites slaughtered a lamb without blemish, applied its blood to the top and doorposts, and remained inside their homes. Upon seeing the blood, God caused the plague to pass over those houses. Thus, the basis of salvation lies not in human righteousness, but in the blood of the lamb. The lamb of the Old Testament foreshadows Jesus Christ, who was to come. Although we do not apply the blood of a literal lamb today, we receive forgiveness of sins and salvation through faith in the precious blood Jesus shed on the cross(Ep.1:7). The center of worship, too, must be the cross and precious blood of Jesus Christ, not mere forms or atmosphere. The significance of the Passover endures to this day.
1. Passover signifies a life that boldly reveals Jesus Christ. Mt.10:32-33, Just as the blood of the lamb served as a visible sign outside the home, Christians must live without hiding their faith in the world. We must confess that "Jesus is my Lord" not only with our words but through our lives. When we live according to God’s Word rather than worldly values and radiate the fragrance of Jesus through love, service, honesty, and holiness, the world sees God through us. Rom.10:9-10
2. Passover teaches us to make Jesus our true food and drink. Just as the Israelites ate the lamb to prepare for the Exodus, we must receive spiritual nourishment daily through the Word, prayer, and worship. Worldly pleasures offer only fleeting satisfaction and cannot truly fill the soul. Only Jesus Christ is the true food and drink that satisfies our deepest thirst. When we abide in the Lord, our weary hearts find renewed strength, and our lives overflow with joy and peace. Jn.6:53-55.
3. The essence of Passover lies in the power of the precious blood. Because of sin, humanity became enemies of God, unable to approach Him on our own. Yet, God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to accomplish complete, eternal atonement once and for all on the cross(Heb.10:14). Our salvation rests not on good deeds or emotions, but solely on the blood of Jesus. Even when we stumble or fail, if we come to the cross in repentance, God forgives and restores us. Furthermore, that precious blood reconciles us with God, enabling us to trust in His good will regardless of our circumstances.
Ultimately, the message of Passover is clear: where there is blood, there is salvation; where there is the cross, there is hope. The precious blood of Jesus Christ possesses the power to wash away sin, deliver us from judgment, reconcile us with God, and enable us to live a new life. Therefore, we must boldly confess Jesus, feed upon the Lord through His Word and worship, and abide daily in the grace of the Cross. When we do so, our lives will be filled with faith rather than fear, hope rather than despair, and God’s love and grace rather than judgment. “When I see the blood, I will pass over you” (Ex.12:13). This promise remains alive and active in our lives today. Amen.
Prayer /Loving God and Father, thank You for revealing the salvation found in Jesus Christ through the Passover lamb of the Exodus. Grant that I may rely solely on the precious blood of Jesus to experience the forgiveness of sins and eternal life, and help me to boldly confess the Lord in my daily life. May I partake of the Lord as true sustenance and life through Your Word, prayer, and worship, and may I always abide in the grace of Jesus’s blood. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Bible Study Material: Jesus Christ, the Passover Lamb(Exo.12:13; Eph.1:7; Rom.5:10)
Summary: The Passover marks the event where God delivered the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt. God commanded that the blood of a spotless lamb be applied to the doorposts and lintels; upon seeing this blood, God caused His judgment to pass over those houses. The basis of salvation lay not in human good deeds or effort, but in the blood of the lamb. This Passover lamb foreshadows Jesus Christ, who was to come. As the sinless Lamb of God, Jesus shed His blood and died on the cross, bearing the penalty for our sins in our place. We are not saved by our own righteousness; rather, we receive forgiveness of sins and salvation through faith in the precious blood of Jesus.
Furthermore, Jesus becomes our true food and drink. When we walk with Jesus through the Word, prayer, and worship, our souls gain new strength and experience true satisfaction. The cross of Jesus reconciled us—who were once enemies of God—to Him and opened the way for us to live within God's love, regardless of our circumstances. Therefore, Christians must look to the cross daily, boldly bear witness to Jesus, abide in the grace of His precious blood, and live lives of gratitude and obedience. The essence of the Passover is the blood of the lamb; for New Testament believers, that blood represents the precious blood of Jesus Christ.
Discussion Questions: 1) What does it mean to me that the Passover lamb foreshadows Jesus Christ? 2) Do I base my salvation on the cross of Jesus rather than on my own actions? 3) Have I recently experienced Jesus as my true food and drink through the Word and prayer? 4) In what ways should we change to reflect the lives of those reconciled to God through the precious blood of Jesus?
Life Application: This week, as we meditate on the grace of Jesus’ cross and His precious blood, let us put our faith into practice by introducing Jesus or sharing the Gospel with at least one person.
Prayer Together: Loving God, we thank You for sending Jesus Christ—the Passover Lamb—to save us from sin and judgment. Help us to believe that our salvation rests solely on the precious blood of Jesus, and enable us to know You more deeply each day through Your Word and prayer. May we live lives that boldly testify to Jesus, always remembering the grace of the cross. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
