The seven plagues(Rev6) & Jesus’ Words on the Olives Mountain(Mt.24)
The first seal/White horse/Antichrist (deceiver): a bow, a crown, its rider tries to conquer
The second seal/Red horse/War: take peace from the earth and make people kill each other, a large sword
The third seal/Black horse/Famine, poverty: a pair of scales, do not damage the oil and the wine
The fourth seal/Pale horse/Death and Hades: power over a fourth of the earth, to kill by sword, famine, plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth
The fifth seal/Persecution of the saints, the martyrs’ plea/The souls of those who had been slain are under the altar, given a white robe, they were told to
wait a little longer until the full number of their fellow servants were killed
The sixth seal/Sings on earth and heaven, those on earth hide in caves, and the rocks of the mountains/The sun turned black, the whole moon turned
blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, the heavens receded like a scroll, and every mountain and island removed, those on earth tremble for the
great day of their wrath has come, who can withstand it?
Today, we listen to the words of wrath of the fifth seal and the sixth seal.
1. The martyrs’ plea (9-11, the fifth seal)
When the Lamb opened the fifth seal, the souls of those who had been slain call out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” They are the martyrs. They are under the altar in heaven. They sacrificed and offered their blood as the burnt offering at the altar. Leviticus 4:7 says, “The priest shall then put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of fragrant incense that is before the Lord in the tent of meeting. The rest of the bull’s blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering at the entrance to the tent of meeting.” 2 Timothy 4:6 writes, “For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near.” It also means that they live out the faith of martyrdom. Over their sacrifice, the history of salvation is accomplished. There were many who were martyred and persecuted during that tie. Do we give our prayer, ministry, and service as sacrifice offerings to the Lord? Those who had been slain because of the Word of God pleaded to the Lord to judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge their blood (verse 10). Verse 11 shows that God responded and each of them was given a white robe that symbolizes victory and nobility. And they were told to wait a little longer (rest), until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters were killed just as they had been. How long? They were to wait until the full numbers were met. They were to wait patiently and persevere in the midst of unfair persecution until the Kingdom of the Lord completes. * When you are treated unfairly, do you trust the Lord and wait until the day of the Lord?
2. The Lamb’s great day of wrath has come (12-17, the sixth seal)
Verses 12-17 show the following when the Lamb opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. It reveals a great disaster that will occur in the universe before Jesus returns. There will be a great chaos as the last days near. Those on earth will tremble and fear before the Lord’s judgment. They will try to hide. They will be powerless and helpless. Is.13:9-10 write, “See, the day of the Lord is coming, a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it. The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light. I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless.” Is. 2:19 writes, “People will flee to caves in the rocks and to holes in the ground from the fearful presence of the Lord and the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth.” Hosea 10:8 says, “The high places of wickedness will be destroyed, it is the sin of Israel. Thorns and thistles will grow up and cover their altars. Then they will say to the mountains, “Cover us!” and to the hills, “Fall on us!” Rev 6:17 says, “For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?”
3. What do these disasters tell us?
There is no one who can withstand the judgment of the Lord, but there is a way for salvation. It is to believe and trust Jesus the Lamb, the Sovereign God. Judgment and salvation is in the hands of Jesus the Lamb. Do not fear the judgment. Those who believe in Jesus become His children and receive salvation. Live out your faith like martyrs, lead other souls to Christ, live with deep gratitude to the Lord, and God will bless you, Amen.
