Matthew 2:1-12 Jesus, Our King

1-12
  1. After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem. 2. and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him." 3. When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4. When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born. 5. "In Bethlehem in Judea," they replied, "for this is what the prophet has written: 6. "`But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.'" 7. Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him." 9. After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. 12. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

The wise men traveled thousands of miles to see the King of the Jews. When they finally found Him, they responded with great exceeding joy, worship, and precious gifts(treasures of gold, incense and myrrh). This is so different from the approach people often today. We expect God to come looking for us, to explain himself, prove he is, and give us gifts. But those who are wise still seek and worship Jesus today, not for what they can get, but for who he is. Did you meet Jesus Christ as your God, Lord and Savior?
The wise men gave these so expensive gifts as worthy acknowledgement for Christ's identity, King(gold), God(incense), The afflicted and died human (myrrh). We also have to give Him our treasures because we already were received the greatest gift, Jesus. He is our King and Shepherd(6).
They brought gifts and worshipped Jesus for who He was. This is the essence of true worship - honoring Christ for who He is and being willing to give Him what is valuable to you. Worship God because He is the perfect, just, and almighty Creator of the universe, worthy of the best you have to give. do you give Him your best gift and worship Him and honor Him?

Today is Blessed Christmas Day. Jesus is the king of kings. When Jesus came 2,000 years ago, the Magi visited Him. For what? What do we today?

1. The magi came to visit the baby king (2).

They followed a star from Persia, more than 900 miles away, to Jerusalem. And they asked where He was as King of the Jews (2). Guided again by a star(9), they traveled to Bethlehem to see the baby Jesus. It was a long way to find and seek Him. Matthew 7:7,8,  “7.Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8.For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”

2. They saw the baby King and worshiped Him (11).
What is the purpose of the magi's long way from the East? Verse 2, "We have come to worship Him when we see his star in the East." They worshiped the baby Jesus. Verse 11, "When you enter the house and see the baby and his mother Mary are together, bow down and worship the baby," the great message of Christmas is, "See and worship that baby!".

3. They have treasured precious treasures to the king (11).

In verse 11b, “Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh."
Christmas is the day to welcome Jesus, the true King. Jesus is our true King. They who meets Him rejoices and rejoices very greatly (10). Worship with precious treasures.
And he will go a new way for God and live a new life. I hope you will live in such a blessed life.
