John 6:1-15  The sign of 5 loaves & 2 fish (Abundant Grace)

Scripture.
1.Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias),
2.and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the miraculous signs he had performed on the sick.
3.Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples.
4.The Jewish Passover Feast was near.
5.When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?"
6.He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
7. Philip answered him, "Eight months' wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!"
8. Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up,
9. "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?"
10. Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and the men sat down, about five thousand of them.
11. Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.
12. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted."
13. So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
14. After the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus did, they began to say, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world."
15.Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.

Today's text is the sign of this commitment. Jesus gave thanks them and performed an astonishing sign that would leave 20,000 people ate abundantly. What does this sign mean?

1. Jesus is beyond common sense and human calculation. Philip says 200 denarii ($30,000) are also insufficient (7). It is extremely human.
2. A boy's small devotion (five loves of bread, two fish, $1-2) became the basis of the sign.    These was his lunch. Andrew gave them to Jesus (8,9). Little was given, but there was an amazing sign of the Lord's wonderful sign(10-11).

3. They ate richly and had 12 baskets left (12-13).
We are scarce and weak, but when we are given to the Lord, we receive abundant and wonderful blessings (Phil. 4:19), and our faith grows. Amen.

Jesus is the Prophet performing the sign (14), the Messiah, God of power. He changed water into wine. He healed the dying son of the servant of the king. The 38-year-old desperate sick man was also healed. Today He performed the sign of 5 loaves & 2 fish. Jesus is the bread of life that allows us to enjoy eternal life without getting hungry (6:48,51,55,58). Amen.

* D.L.Moody's devotion, led hundreds of thousands of people to Jesus to be saved.
* The story of Ralph Johnson Bunch
The disciples said that it was impossible to feed many because of a lack of faith. But the Lord performed miracles. They all ate hungry. And when the crumbs were collected, it became 12 baskets. What is left to eat abundantly, this is the grace the Lord gives us. The Lord's grace is abundant and full. This Lord's miracle awakens the eyes of his disciples. The Lord makes us believe in Jesus today.

This sign (seeing miracles and having faith) began with a little devotion of a boy. What can we give today? Let us give our hearts, our moeney, our lives to the Lord. The Lord will use us as jewels. And He will use us as instruments of the Lord to make a blessed life. Bless you to have a precious life that is used for God and his kingdom. Amen.

Let us give our lives to the Lord, like a boy who gave Jesus them. Through our little devotion, the Lord will give thanks and use us as a jewel or His musical instrument of the Lord, and you will believe more in the Lord with abundant and wonderful grace (Phil. 4:19). Amen.
