Dt.6:4-9,5:16;Eph.6:4, “God’s love, parents’ love, children’s honor”
                                                  Sermon Summary

Dt.6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.
5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.
7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
5:16, Honor your father and mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
Ephe.6:4, Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

On this Parents’ Day, I bless all parents that God’s grace and comfort may abound upon them. I hope that you become a blessed family where parents love their children with the love received from the Lord, and children honor their parents.

1. Love God (Dt.6:4-5)
“Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul,&with all your strength.” God loved us first,&He showed that love through His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Believers must love God with their whole heart&heir lives. True blessings begin when we value God above the world&money.
Application: Is there anything I love more than God? Am I living with the Word close to me every day?

2. Love Your Children (Eph.6:4)
“Do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline& instruction of the Lord.” Children are not the possessions of their parents, but lives entrusted to God. They must be raised with love&encouragement rather than comparison&condemnation. Children learn about God by observing their parents' lives rather than their words.
App./Are my words an encouragement or a wound to my children? Are my children feeling God's love through my example?

3. Honor Your Parents (Dt.5:16)
“Honor your father&mother.” Filial piety is not merely a matter of etiquette, but an act of obedience to God. A phone call, a warm word,&time spent together constitute honor. Jesus showed us an example of filial piety by caring for His mother even on the cross.
App./Are you expressing love&gratitude to your parents? Are you loving them today, not saying “later”?
Resolution/“May we love God the most, may parents embrace their children with the love of Jesus,&may children honor their parents with gratitude.”
Prayer/Loving God the Father, may our family be built upon God's love, may parents raise their children with faith&love, and may children serve their parents with gratitude& honor. Looking to Jesus Christ, who showed love through the cross, may every one of our families overflow with grace&peace. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
