Eze.32:1-32, From a Lion to a monster
Eze.32:1-32, From a Lion to a monster
1. Content: Chs.29-32 are words of judgment on Egypt. Ch.32 is a lament for the king 1-16) and the people(17-32). The king of Egypt is judged for his pride and pollution, like a large lion among the nations(e.g., sphinx) or a crocodile(2).
2. Lesson. 1) The king thought of himself as strong like a lion or a crocodile, but God judges his pride and pollution(1-10). 2) God is the judge of the whole world(11-16). He destroys Egypt through Babylon. It is God's hand, God's sovereignty. 3) At the end of life, the 'soul' is more important than 'glory'(18-32). Egypt goes down to the underworld and is buried with the other six destroyed nations(Assyria, Elam, etc.). He is comforted when they see him(31). It is just sad and painful. Everyone, when we leave this world, we will go to one of two places: heaven or hell. Are you ready to stand before God? This is the most important question.
3. Application: Am I boasting about my experiences, age, talents, etc. right now? Am I living in fear of God? If I am influencing people, is it life or pollution? Is it the fragrance of Jesus Christ or the stench of death? What will I leave behind after I die? How do I want to be remembered before God? Whenever I want to boast, let’s say, “This is also the grace of the Lord,” and “God did it” rather than “I did it.”
4. Prayer: God, sometimes I rely on my own strength and act as if I can live without You. However, I realize that I am a weak being who can easily fall like Pharaoh in Egypt. Please place God at the center of my life, and let me follow and preach the Lord with humility and fear of God like Jesus today. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
